Ladakh bill — quick answers
Why is my Ladakh bill biggest in winter?
Heaters, geysers and oil-filled radiators dominate. One 2 kW heater for 4 h/day is ~240 units/month at the ₹3.80–₹4.20 slabs.
Do solar panels change my bill here?
Yes — solar-heated water cuts geyser load sharply. Pair the estimator with your solar output to forecast the net bill.

Ladakh electricity bill calculator — how your bijli bill is built
The PDD Ladakh (Power Development Department) bills the UT on slabs of ₹2.20 (0–200), ₹3.80 (201–400) and ₹4.20 (401+) per unit with a ₹12/kW monthly fixed charge and 10% electricity duty — a FY 2026-27 proposal filed with JERC would lift these to ₹3.05 (≤200), ₹5.27 (201–400) and ₹5.82 (401+) per unit with fixed ₹15.84/kW, but the order is not yet issued so the FY 2025-26 rates continue.
Leh and Kargil share one tariff designed for a high-altitude, cold desert with heavy winter heating loads and limited, mostly hydro-based generation.
Example: your Ladakh bill for 250 units
Take a Ladakh household using 250 units in one month on PDD Ladakh. The telescopic energy charge is 200 × ₹2.2 + 50 × ₹3.8 = ₹630.00. Add the fixed charge (₹24.00), FAC (₹0.00) and electricity duty (₹65.40) — that gives a gross bill of ₹719.40. With no subsidy in this state, ₹719.40 is your payable.
Here is the same 250 units across every DISCOM in Ladakh — useful when your board's name differs from the common one:
| DISCOM | Energy | Fixed | FAC | Duty | Subsidy | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PDD Ladakh | ₹630.00 | ₹24.00 | ₹0.00 | ₹65.40 | — | ₹719.40 |
Does Ladakh offer a free-unit scheme?
Ladakh currently bills without a domestic free-unit subsidy, so the calculator's checkbox stays off and no green deduction line appears. That is tariff design, not an error — the energy charge is collected in full and the fixed charge, FAC and duty apply on top. If the state announces a scheme, we add it to the data and the toggle lights up automatically.
Ladakh tariff details — live data
The table below is generated from the same data the calculator uses, so what you see here is exactly what is charged. Looking for the per-unit electricity price in The slab column IS your per-unit rate — each rate applies only to the units inside its own slab range.
| DISCOM | Slabs | Fixed charge | FAC |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDD Ladakh | 1–200 @ ₹2.2, 201–400 @ ₹3.8, 401–above 401 @ ₹4.2 | ₹12/kW load | ₹0/unit |
Remember: in telescopic billing each slab rate applies only to the units inside its range. Many websites multiply one rate by total units — that is wrong and overstates bills. This calculator, like your DISCOM, adds slab by slab.
4 practical ways to lower your Ladakh bill
- Winter heating is the whole game — solar water heaters and sealed rooms cut the largest bill line.
- The first 200 units at ₹2.20 are the cheapest power in the UT; the heater is what pushes bills up the ladder.
- 10% duty applies on top — efficient heating saves both units and tax.
- A small solar array offsets the short winter sun; size it with the solar tool.
Quick questions about Ladakh bills
Who supplies Ladakh's power?
The UT's Power Development Department (PDD), regulated by LERC.
Is there a free-unit scheme?
No — Ladakh relies on low slabs rather than a free-unit subsidy; BPL consumers (≤30 units) do get a special ₹1.50/unit rate.
What is the fixed charge?
₹12/kW of sanctioned load per month.
Why does my bill swing so much in winter?
Heating loads multiply winter consumption — normal for Ladakh's cold-desert climate.
