Himachal's zero-bill & rebate scheme — built into this calculator

Himachal's scheme (HPERC order 25 Mar 2026, w.e.f. 01.04.2026): up to 125 units the whole bill is zero; at 126–300 units the GoHP subsidy takes the effective rate to ₹2.07/unit on the first 125 units (maximum two meters per household), while units above that bill at the full ₹5.44–₹5.89 rate. This calculator reproduces both stages automatically — beyond 300 units the subsidy disappears entirely, exactly as HPSEBL applies it.

Himachal bill — quick answers

Why is HP power so cheap?

Abundant hydel generation makes HPSEBL one of India's lowest-cost DISCOMs — passed through as low slabs and a tiny FAC.

What's the biggest bill driver here?

Electric geysers and room heaters in winter. A 2 kW geyser × 1 h/day is ~60 units/month — free under the ≤125U zero-bill scheme (≈₹411 without it).

Does Himachal have a free-units scheme?

Yes — up to 125 units the whole bill is zero. Between 126–300 units the GoHP subsidy cuts the effective rate to ₹2.07/unit on the first 125 units (full rates above that). Beyond 300 units there is no subsidy; the toggle reproduces it.

Himachal Pradesh electricity bill calculator — how your bijli bill is built

HPSEBL serves Himachal with a domestic tariff of ₹5.44 (0–125) and ₹5.89 (126+) per unit, a flat ₹85/month fixed charge, 3% electricity duty and ₹0.34/unit in per-unit charges (FAC + milk cess) — with the state's free-electricity scheme doing the heavy lifting.

Shimla, Kangra and the valleys share one state-wide HPERC ladder, and abundant hydro keeps rates remarkably stable.

Example: your Himachal Pradesh bill for 250 units

Take a Himachal Pradesh household using 250 units in one month on HPSEBL. The telescopic energy charge is 125 × ₹5.44 + 125 × ₹5.89 = ₹1416.25. Add the fixed charge (₹85.00), FAC (₹85.00) and electricity duty (₹29.85) — that gives a gross bill of ₹1628.74. The state subsidy of ₹421.25 is then deducted, leaving ₹1194.85 payable.

Here is the same 250 units across every DISCOM in Himachal Pradesh — useful when your board's name differs from the common one:

Himachal Pradesh subsidy / free-unit scheme

The Himachal Free Electricity Scheme (launched 28 Aug 2022, renewed in the HPERC FY 2026-27 order of 25 Mar 2026) makes the entire bill ₹0 up to 125 units a month — energy, fixed charge and duty all waived. Bills of 126–300 units get the GoHP subsidy of ₹3.37/unit on the first 125 units (effective ₹2.07/unit); units above 125 bill at the full ₹5.89 — the former 126–300-unit subsidy ended with the FY 2026-27 order. Consumption above 300 units pays the full tariff with no subsidy.

Himachal Pradesh tariff details — live data

The table below is generated from the same data the calculator uses, so what you see here is exactly what is charged. Looking for the per-unit electricity price in The slab column IS your per-unit rate — each rate applies only to the units inside its own slab range.

DISCOMSlabsFixed chargeFAC
HPSEBL1–125 @ ₹5.44, 126–300 @ ₹5.89, 301–above 301 @ ₹5.89₹85/month₹0.34/unit

Remember: in telescopic billing each slab rate applies only to the units inside its range. Many websites multiply one rate by total units — that is wrong and overstates bills. This calculator, like your DISCOM, adds slab by slab.

4 practical ways to lower your Himachal Pradesh bill

  1. Winter electric heating drives most bills; zone your rooms to heat only the space in use.
  2. Crossing 125 units loses the zero-bill benefit entirely — know your monthly line before the heater season.
  3. Solar water heaters are highly effective at Himalayan altitudes — a 100 L unit cuts geyser load dramatically.
  4. Track the meter each month; the 125-unit boundary makes readings the most important number on your bill.

Quick questions about Himachal Pradesh bills

Who is HPSEBL?

Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board — the single distribution utility for the state.

Is the 125-unit free scheme still running?

Yes — consumers using up to 125 units/month get a zero bill; 126–300 units get the GoHP subsidy (₹3.37/unit on the first 125 units, effective ₹2.07/unit) while units above 125 bill at the full ₹5.89 — the old 126–300-unit subsidy ended with the FY 2026-27 order (25 Mar 2026, w.e.f. 01.04.2026).

Why are tariffs so low?

HPERC's orders keep rates low thanks to the state's hydro surplus.

What is the fixed charge?

₹85/month flat — plus a ₹50/month swachhata cess shown as a separate line by the calculator, and a 10 paise/unit milk cess folded into the per-unit FAC line. All of it — fixed, cess, duty — is waived entirely when you qualify for the 125-unit zero bill.
