Karnataka's Gruha Jyoti zero bill — built into this calculator

Gruha Jyoti gives eligible households a zero bill up to 200 units (the benefit is tied to your 2022-23 average consumption). This calculator applies the full waiver automatically — energy charge, fixed charge and duty all drop to ₹0. But cross 200 units and the entire bill reverts to the normal tariff; the tool shows that cliff exactly, so a 201-unit month never surprises you.

Karnataka bill — quick answers

Who is eligible for Gruha Jyoti free units?

Eligible households get a zero bill up to 200 units (entitlement is based on your 2022-23 average consumption) — energy charge, fixed charge and duty are all waived. Our subsidy toggle applies it automatically.

Why does my bill jump past 200 units?

Cross 200 units and Gruha Jyoti drops away completely — the flat ₹5.80/unit tariff applies with the ₹150/kW fixed charge and 9% duty. Keep usage within your entitlement as far as possible.

Karnataka electricity bill calculator — how your bijli bill is built

Four state ESComs — BESCOM (Bengaluru), MESCOM (Mangaluru), HESCOM (Hubballi) and GESCOM (Kalaburagi) — bill the whole of Karnataka on a KERC FY 2026-27 5-slab telescopic tariff: ₹3.30/unit for the first 30 units, ₹5.45/unit for 31–100, ₹7.10/unit for 101–200, ₹8.35/unit for 201–500 and ₹9.00/unit above 500. Fixed charge is ₹50/month for single-phase connections, with ₹0.20/unit FAC and 9% electricity duty.

The Gruha Jyothi scheme gives qualifying households up to 200 units free — the entire bill (energy, fixed charge and all) is waived. Above 200 units, the full slab tariff applies.

Example: your Karnataka bill for 250 units

Take a Karnataka household using 250 units in one month on BESCOM (Bengaluru). The telescopic energy charge is: 30 × ₹3.30 + 70 × ₹5.45 + 100 × ₹7.10 + 50 × ₹8.35 = ₹1,508.50. Add the fixed charge (₹50.00), FAC (₹50.00) and electricity duty (₹145.77) — that gives a gross bill of ₹1,754.27. With Gruha Jyothi (if eligible ≤200U), the bill becomes ₹0. For 250 units above the entitlement, ₹1,754.27 is your payable.

Here is the same 250 units across every DISCOM in Karnataka — useful when your board's name differs from the common one:

Karnataka subsidy / free-unit scheme

Gruha Jyothi is Karnataka's flagship: a qualifying household that consumes up to 200 units a month gets the entire bill — energy, fixed charge and all — waived to ₹0. Consumption above 200 units is billed in full (the free amount is pegged to the household's 2022-23 average). The calculator switches the subsidy on automatically.

The table below is generated from the same data the calculator uses, so what you see here is exactly what is charged. Looking for the per-unit electricity price in The slab column IS your per-unit rate — each rate applies only to the units inside its own slab range.

Remember: in telescopic billing each slab rate applies only to the units inside its range. Many websites multiply one rate by total units — that is wrong and overstates bills. This calculator, like your DISCOM, adds slab by slab.

4 practical ways to lower your Karnataka bill

  1. Keep usage at or under 200 units to ride Gruha Jyothi — one unit past 200 re-exposes the whole tariff.
  2. Declare your star-rated appliances where the 5-star cashback programme applies.
  3. Shift the geyser and washing machine to early morning to smooth the demand curve.
  4. A rooftop 3-kW solar plant with net-metering removes the biggest slab from Bengaluru summer bills.
